Join Us! Meeting to Address Neighborhood Traffic Changes on March 6 at 5 PM

Please join us for an important meeting with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) regarding the proposed traffic (car, pedestrian, and bike) changes for the neighborhood on Wednesday, March 6th at 25 Broadway (EQ Office space) from 5-6:30 PM.

About 50 neighbors attended the walking tour with SFMTA on February 21 and expressed concerns about some of the proposed changes, which could take effect as early as May 2019. These include:

  • Elimination of left turns off of Embarcadero onto Sansome or Chestnut
  • Conversion of Vallejo Street (between Battery/Sansome) to one-way eastbound with bike lanes and one driving lane
  • Adding Davis Street bike lanes and improved pedestrian cross-walks

For more information, please visit the SFMTA website, review the fact sheet, and review the Embarcadero Enhancement Project (larger traffic, pedestrian, transportation improvements). If you cannot attend the meeting, send your comments and concerns ASAP to SFMTA Project Manager Mark Dreger at Mark.Dreger@sfmta.com.

You’re Invited to a Housing & Community Development Forum on February 19 at Chinatown YMCA

The Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, and the Planning Department invite BCNA members to participate in a community forum. The purpose of the forum is to seek input from residents on our departments’ strategic plans, which identify the City’s affordable housing, community development and workforce development needs and priorities and how they are addressed.

WHEN: Tuesday, February 19 from 5:30-7:30 PM
WHERE: Chinatown YMCA – 855 Sacramento Street

This is an opportunity for all San Franciscans, and especially residents of Districts 2 and 3, to share their opinions and experiences related to housing and social service needs, barriers to fair housing, and improving housing affordability. Food, child watch, and Cantonese interpretation will be provided at the event.

Your input would inform the development of the following six strategic plans:

  • The Consolidated Plan is the primary MOHCD plan that identifies affordable housing and community development needs and priorities.
  • The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing looks at fair housing issues and how they can be addressed.
  • The HIV Housing Plan focuses on housing-related programs for people living with HIV.
  • The OEWD Workforce Strategy Framework identifies workforce development needs and priorities and informs the Workforce Local and Regional Plan
  • The Community Stabilization Strategy works to mitigate and prevent displacement and to ensure that economic growth offers benefits to existing communities.
  • The Housing Affordability Strategy provides a framework to evaluate how our housing policies and plans work together to address housing affordability for our diverse populations.

Thanks in advance, and we look forward to seeing you at the forum!

Public Walking Tour of Proposed Traffic Changes With SFMTA on February 21 at 5 PM

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is looking for input on safety/traffic/pedestrian improvements as they design an alternative route for walking and bicycling parallel to the traffic-heavy Embarcadero. We encourage members to join the tour or check out SFMTA.com for more information to see the proposed changes to our neighborhood. View the fact sheet here.

Specifically, SFMTA wants specific feedback on the following:

  • Which crossings pose the most challenges for people walking
  • Where new/better curb management for passenger/goods loading is needed
  • Considerations for whether to implement a one-way conversion of Vallejo Street between Sansome and Battery Streets

WHEN: Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 5:00-6:30 PM
WHERE: Corner of Battery Street and The Embarcadero (near Fog City Diner)

Walking Tour Details: The tour will start at the corner of Battery Street and The Embarcadero (near Fog City Diner), with the expected route to include walking between Sansome and Battery streets to Green, heading over to Vallejo, and then walking on Davis ending at Sydney G. Walton Square. The distance of the tour will be less than one mile, and the terrain will be flat and paved. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking and layer appropriately.
