The ceremonial groundbreaking for the 88 Broadway and 735 Davis affordable housing development took place today with great fanfare and a large turnout. BRIDGE Housing President Cynthia Parker and John Stewart, co-developers of the project, kicked off the program. City officials Mayor London Breed, Supervisor Aaron Peskin, and Port Executive Director Elaine Forbes also spoke. Supervisor Peskin gave a shoutout to the Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association’s support for the project. Bruno Kanter spoke on behalf of North Beach Neighbors, accompanied by his young daughter. Our own BCNA Board member Bob Harrer was also invited to speak. Bob devoted countless hours to the project on behalf of BCNA and the Northeast Waterfront Advisory Group (NEWAG). He praised the collaborative process and the development’s anticipated positive impact on the neighborhood.

In total, 88 Broadway and 735 Davis will provide 178 apartments for low to moderate-income families and seniors. The development will also feature retail and commercial space, including a childcare center and cafe, as well as public open space. BCNA has been a strong supporter of this project, which is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and will provide much-needed affordable housing.
