Message from Mayor Breed, SF Department of Public Health Re COVID-19

A message from Mayor Breed and the SF Dept. Public Health re: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

On February 25, 2020, Mayor London Breed announced that San Francisco has declared a local emergency to proactively prepare for possible coronavirus activity in the community.

Although there are zero confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in San Francisco residents, and the risk to the general public is currently low, the global picture is changing rapidly and we need to step-up preparedness.

Given the high volume of international travel from SF, there is a growing likelihood that we will see cases eventually. If and when this occurs, the Health Department will make an announcement here and on twitter, in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

Proper handwashing is the most effective way to prevent illness. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Stay home when you’re sick. Get a Flu Shot, and Stay Informed.
